The Greek band Rotting Christ is quite famous: both for their unique sound and the way of performance. Since the year 1987 the band has been around with great music for their fans and September of 2004 was marked with the release of another album by this Greek band.


Well, hello there! How are you today?

Coll man.Olympic paralympic games are over and finally I can get a proper sleep!

Lets start with the announcement of the current official line-up:

Sakis, is there any latest news which you’d like to forward to the fans who’ll read this interview?

Yes the announcement of our new guitarist after the removal of Kostas..Till now seems that he will be sticked in the Rotting camp as he has the right rock n roll attitude and he is a good guitar player!

What is the new album all about? What about its conception?

Yes it is our darkest more aggressive and more experimental as well as mature release ever. Devil could be a saint. Devils' work could be the agent to eternity and
freedom if we rise up our punch to all fearfull powers.

Which studio was honoured by the recording of this piece of work, where was the mixing done, and who was the producer?

The album was recorded here in Greece in SCA studios and produced exclusively from me……which means that it was a risk that I took as I having worked with too many producers and getting some elements from their job and stand well in the end.You know it was really comfortable for me to record in my ho,metown and anytime I needed the help of some people I could easily find it with just a phone call and the most important is that I could have a proper sleep after each day recording.Then the masters sent to Fredmans studio where Fredrik did the mixing and the we are satisfied with the final result.!


Sanctus Diavolos was released by Century Media. As far as I remember, the deal was for 6 albums, and if I’m not mistaken Sanctus Diavolos is the 6th album. Thinking about the next release, are you going to look for another label or you’ll stick to Century Media?

Yes right this is our last album concerning our contract and we will see about a new contract as soon as we will be finished with the promotion part.

Are you fond of touring? Any plans to tour in the nearest future?

ROTTING CHRIST without touring can not be existed so tright after the release of SANCTUS DIAVOLOS we will hit the road playing all around the globe cause we do like this way of living even if we have been tired but……you can not have everything in youtr life.I think that we will keep on touring as long as the people ask for it.

And what do you enjoy most in a tour?

In the past abuses now ONLY the show time and a good food …getting older or what?

You played with a vast variety of absolutely superb bands. Can you point out those of them with whom it was really easy, fun and especially pleasant for you to work?

The great majority of them were great to tour with…As long as a band doesn’t consist of alcoholics that break everything in the tour bus we enjoy to tour with.

Naturally, within the tours you have visited a countless number of different countries. Which of them do you like and remember most and why?

South America rules man.people are getting crazy and they are really die hards for that music something that we do enjoy. Also they always are delayed something that make us following their rhythms of their lifes and we definitely enjoy it!

For the recording of the song Among Two Storms you invited Fernando Ribeiro (Moonspell).
Can you recall anything about this recording session? How did it go in general? Do you have plans to invite anyone else for helping to record other songs for Rotting Christ?

Yes Fernado is a brother of us and after an invitation of us he accepted very pleasant. Also Gus G (Dream Evil ) played a solo in our last album. He is really talented and because of our friendship we loved to work with him.

Sakis, there was a period of time when Rotting Christ communicated with Euronymous. In what way do you remember him? What do you consider the real cause or reason of his death?

Euronymous was the only one ever leader that BLACK METAL movement appeal! He was a close friend of mine but I can not really understand till now the real cause of his death.

My favourite question to all musicians. Please do tell about your instrument and could you please also dwell upon its differences from other instruments. What are its advantages and disadvantages.

I do play instead of guitar and other instruments so I can not find too many differences concerning different instruments. I can not play so well drums and I am alwys getting nervous with drummers, but I do love and respect their work cause they are heroes manage to play lives under any kind of conditions.

Did you acquire professional music education?

No… My ear was and will be my only teacher!

What other stuff do you occupy yourself with besides music?

Lately to be honest ….noithing. I am involving with music in many parts. Compose record produce music .i even book shows so you can guess I can hardly find time to spend with friends or for hobbies!

What’s your favourite way to spend free time?

If I finally manage that I prefer to read a book or to byke

This year the Olympic Games took place in Greece. Did you visit any of the events devoted to it? Do you enjoy going in for sports as such?

In the beginning I was suspicious but in the end I did enjoy that cause Athens was the metropolis of the world and I could meet up many people from different civilidsations. Yes I went to see tennis boxing and athletics

Ok, and what’s your attitude to alcohol? Do you like to drink a beer or two with your friends?

Not any more. not at all actually. I have destroy enough from my brain the last decade and I do need that cause I got too many work!

Were you ever recognized on a street and asked to give an autograph?

Sometimes.. .yes……

So far that’s it. I hope this is not the last interview for us. Any final words in connection to the release of your new album?
