- Do they shine?
- Shine but don’t please.”

It was the evening of 27 August. There were people going down the alleys leading to the legendary recreation center named after Gorbunov. One could feel the light atmosphere of pre-concert euphoria near the center – after summer holidays friends chat idly, members of different bands share creative plans and discuss the forthcoming concert season.
The procedure of examination is over, the orange label with mark “press/photo” is pasted and my colleagues and me stand by the tables with merchandising. By the way, everything was ok with it – T-shirts (including elegant female ones), long-sleeves, CDs and even posters were spreading well. Three calls called everybody into a hall and simultaneously marked the appearance the warming-up command, Repentance, on the stage. I saw this band once, on 6th of January, in Relax club. There, however, they seemed not as impressive as on the stage of Gorbushka. Musicians showed themselves from the best side and proved that we have bands, which play as good as those whom they warm up. The set was short and as I have noted and of high quality. So, all in all, they didn’t disgrace themselves.
I shall allow myself a tiny digression. Having arrived from European festivals, Panzicov told us a lot about different bands’ shows at Tuska and Wacken Open Air. Our heroes, Sentenced, were there too and were remembered by him not only for a good performance but also for carrying out a coffin onto the stage – it symbolized their serious intentions connected with the “funeral” of the band. As for me, I don’t believe in their real “death”. Musical history has lots of such examples of commercial maneuvers of similar sort: let’s see, maybe guys will have a rest from each other and revive as the bird Phoenix rises from ashes – there are tons of such examples.
Let’s come back to the hall where the crowd of people got much bigger than it was at first. The number of the people can probably be compared with that at the Crematory’s concert. We didn’t have to wait for the Finns long. The beautiful, mournful Intro began and then we heard vigorous chords of "Where Waters Fall Frozen". The public was full of delight – in spite of the fact that there was nothing special in the appearance of these Finnish guys – common jeans, common shirts. And the coffin probably didn’t reach us and it’s a pity. But a can of Carlsberg didn’t leave the stage, the vocalist demonstratively consumed it. He drank while being free from singing. And who on earth would mind to drink some beer before a huge crowd on the stage of the Gorbunova venue? =)
Having taken photos during the first 3 songs, I decided to have a break at the foyer. For the first time the place was quite deserted, but towards the end of the concert people started forming up a queue to get beer.
There was a child running about in the venue whom a careful father probably acquainted with the culture. I suppose the appearance of the baby at the concert marked the importance of this historical event in some people’s minds.
As for me I wouldn’t call Sentenced’s creativity strongly varied. I wouldn’t say that one can’t get tired from their music. The same was at the concert, approximately to the 6th song I started losing the interest towards the things happening on the stage. The reason was probably the absence of the brightness which masters usually demonstrate during their performances. Of course the guys moved and ‘worked’ with the audience but there’s no more. For sure fans won’t agree with me but it often happens that one doesn’t notice any lacks behind one’s own emotions.
The band played the cover version for "The Trooper" but it was a rather boring one. By the way, this not only my opinion. Then Outro followed and… the curtains. In spite of everything, tears started to my eyes. What if they really won’t return? Time will tell.
We won’t finish it, let there be dots giving to the admirers the hope to see Sentenced once again.
