Tuska Open Air Festival

(18.05.05) TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL PRESS RELEASE

• Running Order Revealed
• Club Programme Ready

Tuska-Festival taking place in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki, Finland over the weekend of 15.-17.7. has revealed the running order for 2005. The programme for the evening clubs is also ready.

The running order is very similar to those of recent years where the Main Stage takes turns with Sue and Hellsinki –stages, who play simultaneously. So expect no unnecessary breaks in the music supply.

Running order can be viewed at www.tuska-festival.fi, where you can also download it to your computer as a pdf-file. The band contest at Rotonde-Festival takes place May 21st, after which the name of the French band performing at Tuska this year will also be known.

The structures of Sue and Hellsinki –stages have received some crowd pleasing facelifts. The Sue-stage will now feature a brand new Saddle Span Roof System, which combines the view of an open air stage with the benefit of a roof in case of rain. The vintage circus tent of Hellsinki-stage has in turn been replaced with the more spacious tent that was covering the Sue-stage in previous years. The possibility to watch the bands outside the tents is now improved on both stages.

The programme for the evening clubs is also ready. As one can determine from the listing below, there is more variety in the evening clubs as well. Tuska will pay homage to its original playground of VR-Makasiinit, which most likely will not see the summer of 2006 anymore. New club venues for this year are NightLife Rock, located in Kallio, the Brooklyn of Helsinki as well as Gloria where under-aged festival animals have the opportunity to party on after the festival gates close.

Three-day-tickets for Tuska-Festival cost 67euro and one-day-tickets 32euro each. Tickets are available through www.lippupalvelu.fi and www.tiketti.fi.

Tickets for the evening clubs are sold only at Tiketti and cost 6-8euro. These tickets will go on sale on Monday, May 23rd. Tickets for NightLife Rock are available only at the festival site and at the door of the club.

(25.04.05) TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL PRESS RELEASE

Mnemic and Paska complete the 2005 line-up
• Tuska Warm-up party on June 15th at Tavastia in Helsinki – exclusive Amorphis–show

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival taking place in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki, during 15.-17.7. has completed the 2005 line-up.

The sole vacant slot on Saturday has now been occupied by Danish future metallers Mnemic. The Danes just recently played their first show in Finland at the Finnish Metal Expo and will now return to perform to larger crowds.

Not many people outside of Finland have heard about the performance artist known as Paska. His eccentric and certainly very original performances can be seen on all stages throughout the weekend. Be warned.

The only missing act at this stage is the winner of the band contest at Rotonde-Festival at the end of May.

According to the tradition established in prior years, a Tuska warm-up party will take place at the infamous Tavastia Club in Helsinki on Wednesday, 15th of June. The crowd will be treated with the only live-performance of the summer by the legendary Amorphis. These true veterans of Finnish metal will be warmed up by the groovy Rust and up and coming melodic emocore act April. Amorphis have just recently returned from a successfull North - American tour with their newly recruited singer Tomi Joutsen. In other Amorphis-related news, the band signed a fresh recording contract with German Nuclear Blast Records and will soon enter the studio to record a follow up to their 2003 album Far From The Sun.

Tuska 2005 evening clubs offer more variety than ever in terms of venues and acts. Tavastia and Manala will carry on from last year, and as for new locations, Tuska will pay homage to its original festival site, VR-Makasiinit by hosting evening clubs on Friday and Saturday. Gloria will be the location of first ever all-ages –Tuska-clubs. Also a new addition is the recently opened, widely popular NiteLife Rock, a.k.a. Talevala. The programme for all Tuska 2005 evening clubs will be released in May.

Tickets for Tuska 2005 are currently on sale. Three day ticket costs 67 euro and one day tickets 32 euro each. Tickets are available through Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi) and Tiketti (www.tiketti.fi).

(22.3.05) TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL ANNOUNCMENT

• Line-up almost complete, one more artist to be added
• Ticket sales start on Friday April 1st

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival has added more international and Finnish acts to the 2005 roster. The line-up is almost complete with only 1 more artist to be added for Saturday afternoon as well as the winner from the band contest at Rotonde-Festival, France, which is to be held later this spring. This year’s Tuska-Festival is more international than ever, with nearly half of the artists coming from abroad. The evening clubs will most likely see some international action as well.

New additions in Finnish professionalism will be represented by Apocalyptica, whose cello metal is witnessed way too rarely on their native soil. Apocalytica just recently supported Rammstein on their European tour and appeared stateside on a few selected dates.

German precision and universal greatness is brought to you by the mighty Gamma Ray. The band last appeared on the bill at Tuska 2000 and have since built their fanbase by selling out club shows on a regular basis.

Other additions include up-and-coming death metallers Amoral, Finnish-singing Stamina and Viikate, as well as Callisto who are about to embark on a European tour in a few weeks.

The search continues for one more, either domestic or foreign artist.

Ticket sales for Tuska 2005 start on Friday April 1st. Three-day ticket costs 67 euro, one-day ticket 32 euro. Go to www.lippupalvelu.fi to purchase tickets.

(3.3.2005) TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES MORE ARTISTS

The eighth annual Tuska Open Air Metal Festival at Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki, Finland during 15.-17.7. has confirmed more Finnish and international artists. The 2005 festival will once again present more than thirty bands from different styles of metal, several of which will be announced on a later date. Already at this point, it is once again evident that there will be something for each and every taste, from old school thrash to modern black metal and everything in between.

Saturday 16.7. will be headlined by the infamous Norwegian black metallers Dimmu Borgir. The band has pushed the boundaries of symphonic black metal with every record and are currently preaparing their next release. That is the reason why the group has toured very scarcely in recent times. Their Tuska-performance will be one of few selected festival shows the band will do next summer. Dimmu Borgir was originally scheduled to play at Tuska 2004 but after being offered one of the headlining slots at Ozzfest, they obviously had to cancel their appearance.

Friday night will be closed by American Space-Stoner group Monster Magnet. Vocalist Dave Wyndorf’s trimmed moustache and leatherpants were last witnessed on Finnish soil at last year’s Ruisrock Festival, where allegedly pants were wet, water turned to beer and the sun stopped shining during their breathtaking performance. Expect no less at Tuska 2005 as well as Ilosaarirock where Monster Magnet will take the stage on Saturday.

Finnish funeral atmosphere will be provided by Sentenced, who will embark on their farewell tour over the summer. This true Tuska-veteran has appeared on the bill several times, therefore it’s more than appropriate that their final tour will take them to Kaisaniemi Park, one last time.

Other international competence at Tuska 2005 will be represented by German veteran thrashers Destruction and fellow germans Primal Fear, who will give their debut Finnish performance at Tuska. Swedish goth metallers Lake Of Tears and UK-based folkmetal group Bal-Sagoth have been requested for a long time by the audience and finally the wait is over, as both have been added to the roster. History is also in the making, as Tuska 2005 will present the first Russian band in the festival’s history. Progressive death metallers Hieronymus Bosch have been in the game since the early nineties, therefore their appearance at the festival is very justified.

Speaking of firsts, another one is the debut performance by Wintersun, the new melodic death metal supergroup spearheaded by ex-Ensiferum vocalist Jari Mäenpää. Drum duties are performed by the extraordinaire Rotten Sound – drummer Kai Hahto, second guitar is played by the young Imperanon-axeman Teemu Mäntysaari and Norther-bassplayer Jukka Koskinen will take care of the low end.

In addition to these already confirmed acts, both Finnish and international artists will be added to the roster.

Tickets for Tuska 2005 will go on sale April 1st through Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi). The three day ticket costs 67 euros and day tickets cost 32 euros.

Current Tuska 2005 artist roster reads like this:

Accept (GER)
Dimmu Borgir (NOR)
Monster Magnet (USA)
Children Of Bodom
Testament (USA)
Sentenced
Finntroll
Destruction (GER)
Rotten Sound
Evergrey (SWE)
Primal Fear (GER)

(27.1.2005) TUSKA OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2005 HAS CONFIRMED FIRST ARTISTS

The eighth annual Tuska Open Air Metal Festival which takes place in Kaisaniemi, Helsinki, Finland during 15.-17.7.2005 has confirmed first artists for the 2005 festival.

This year’s closing act on Sunday the 17th is none other than the most legendary German heavy metal band of all time, Accept. The band plays a few very carefully selected comeback-shows at the most important festivals in Europe. Their Tuska-show elevates Tuska to the same league with Wacken Open Air and Sweden Rock Festival. Accept-frontman Udo Dirkschneider has vistited Finland several times over the years but this time such classics as Balls To The Wall, Metal Heart and Fast As A Shark are interpreted by the original line-up, who have gotten over their personal disputes.

Also headlining the 2005 festival will be the famous Bay Area Thrashers, Testament. As one of the pioneers of their genre, Testament has been around the world and sold millions of records along the way. Currently, the group is experiencing a second coming of thrash metal along with a new generation of Thrash metal fans.

Finnish metal of the highest quality is represented by local heroes Children Of Bodom. Once described as the “brain surgeons” of metal, the Bodom-guys nowadays spend more time overseas than on their native playground; the Tuska-show is a rare treat for their Finnish fans.

Tuska-Festival without Swedish bands will never happen; so far Evergrey and Naglfar have confirmed their performances. Also confirmed is Scarve from France who will be joined by fellow Frenchmen, the winner from a band contest at Rotonde Festival, France, which takes place later this spring. This will be the third and conclusive year of the collaboration between Tuska and French Assecarm-association.

Other confirmed Finnish acts at this point are Finntroll, Rotten Sound, Thunderstone, Ajattara, Teräsbetoni, Turmion Kätilöt, Death Chain and Pain Confessor.

The festival area will also grow for the next event. The number of visitors will increase to 33 000 during the weekend. That combined with more than 10 000 visitors at the after hours clubs makes Tuska an event the size of The Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

Tuska-festival has picked up a couple of well appreciated awards. First the finnish metal fans voted Tuska as the event of the year in Sirkkelirock gala. Tuska got the award for the second year running. Pretty good since this was the second gala ever. The next price came when Finnish mainstream city newspaper Nöjesguiden handed Tuska the music-act of the year award.

Tuska-Festival is also strongly present at the Finnish Metal Expo at Kaapelitehdas in Helsinki during 28.-29.1. Come and visit the Tuska-stand to see the new graphic design and buy some custom merchandise. Also, the Hilselinko-band contest by Tuska and Finnish Metal Expo comes to conclusion at the FME. Four finalists settle the score and see who’s going to play at Tuska 2005.

Tickets for Tuska 2005 will go on sale later this spring through Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi). Tuska 2005 is an all ages festival.
